Hip-hop is all set to invade the White House at a celebration honoring American poetry with artists such Jill Scott, Elizabeth Alexander and Alison Knowles all set to perform.

Well now that Chicago rapper Common‘s name was announced yesterday as part of the lineup for the event which is being hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama, controversy is brewing among some right-winged political websites who have labeled Common’s lyrics as being riddled with violence, and have even gone as far as labeling him a “gangster rapper.”

What does Common have to say about all this??  ”So apparently Sarah Palin and Fox News doesn’t like me,” he tweeted to CNN political analyst Roland Martin, and he also asked his Twitter followers to post links to websites that are taking issue with his involvement in the event.
