Actress/comedian Wanda Sykes  has admitted for the first time that earlier this year she had breast cancer and elected to have a double mastectomy.

In interview with Ellen DeGeneres set to air Monday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Wanda reveals that during a pe-screening for a possible breast reduction it was discovered that she had DCIS [ductal carcinoma in situ] in her left breast.

She says that since “cancer is cancer”,  she decided that instead of “going back every three months and get it checked”, she would just have a bilateral mastectomy and put an end to it once and for all. ”I’m not good at keeping on top of stuff.  I had both breasts removed … because now I have zero chance of having breast cancer, she says adding that there also is ”A lot of breast cancer history on my mother’s side of the family.”

“I had both breasts removed, now I have zero chance of having breast cancer.  It sounds scary up front, but what do you want?  Wanda 47, said, according to reports. “Do you want to wait and not be as fortunate when it comes back and it’s too late?”

Wow how brave of her!!! I love her even more now.
