Former Penn State Coach Joe Paterno Has Lung Cancer
Joe Paterno, who was recently fired as head football coach at Penn State after being linked to a child sex-abuse scandal, has announced that he has a treatable form of lung cancer.
The 84-year-old says he has already began undergoing treatment for the disease, which he claims was just diagnosed last weekend during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness.
In a statement given to the AP Joe’s son Scott Paterno says:
“His doctors are optimistic he will make a full recovery. As everyone can appreciate, this is a deeply personal matter for my parents, and we simply ask that his privacy be respected as he proceeds with treatment.”
The coach was fired from his job after former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was accused of molesting a total of eight boys over 15 years, both before and after his 1999 retirement.
