French Montana On XXL Freshman Cover: “I Wasn’t Gonna Do It”

If you live in New York, you know French Montana has been grinding for years. But since the Morocco-born, Bronx rapper’s success has not yet reached a nation/worldwide level, this makes him still kinda sorta……………a “newcomer”.
Although the XXL Freshman will just be releasing his debut album on July 17, he has dropped well over a dozen mixtapes. And this made him feeling like he was no longer a newbie in the rap game and almost turned down the opportunity of doing the cover.
“I kinda like wasn’t gonna do it, because I felt like I deserved it two years ago, last year. You know how that goes,” he told Sway on Wednesday’s episode of “RapFix Live.”
“They were like, ‘This is based upon if you don’t have an album out.’ But to me I looked at it as another stepping stone because I respect everything they do,” he says. “I said, ‘I really don’t have no album out and I’m still like a rookie to the mainstream world.’ ”
