Lauryn Hill Faces Three Years In Prison After Pleading Guilty To Tax Evasion

Lauryn Hill took to her Tumblr a few weeks ago to explain that her anti-consumerism beliefs had kept her from paying her taxes for several years.

Lauryn says: “I abandoned greed, corruption, and compromise, never you, and never the artistic gifts and abilities that sustained me.” She said that she went “underground” to protect her family from the military industrial complex and the media, prompting more than a few raised eyebrows from readers of the rambling note.

Too bad for her paranoid reasoning was not a good enough excuse for the government who is now wanting the mother of  SIX to only pay thousands in fines but also serve prison time.

The singer has pled guilty to three counts of “intentionally and willingly” failing to file tax returns for the years between 2005 and 2007, where she earned $1.8 million.  According to TMZ she now faces THREE years in prison, and could also owe $75,000 in fines.

Lauryn was released on $150,000 bail and will return for her sentencing hearing in November.
