Hip-hop is mourning the lost of Rapper Nipsey Hussle who died Sunday Afternoon (March 31), near The Marathon Clothing, a store he owns in Los Angeles.
According to several media outlets, the shooting took place around Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard at 3:20 pm where two other people were injured. Hussle, however, suffered from his fatalities and died at a nearby hospital.
The L.A. born rapper made a name for himself musically and in the streets. He was well-known and loved in the Hip-hop world and notably in his hometown, where he created several businesses to bring jobs to his neighborhood. Specifically, Hussle owned “The Marathon Agency, SC Commercial Ventures, Proud 2 Pay and All Money In No Money Out Records,” according to CNN.
Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, is said to have teamed up with several household names including Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Ty Dolla Sign, Meek Mill and Young Thug. He was currently working on a music video with John Legend and Khaled.
A member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Mark Ridley-Thomas, released a public statement on the loss of Hussle.
“Ermias Asghedom, known to us as the hip-hop artist Nipsey Hussle, was a father, businessman, entertainer, and inspiration to many,” Ridley-Thomas stated. “Our communities have lost too many young men and bright futures to the scourge of gun violence. For healing to occur, even from this terrible incident, justice must be sought through legal means, and community peace must be found.”
Nipsey was an active advocate for gang violence. He specifically focused on putting an end to gang-related violence in his community. He was set to meet with LA Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff and LAPD Chief Michael Moore on Monday morning to discuss ways to end gang violence.

The unexpected death of Hussle sparked a chain of reactions among fans and celebrities remembering the late rapper.
“Broke me..” Rapper Meek Mill wrote on Twitter. “We really fighting for our lives against our own kind and really have to take risk and match the level of hatred that we are born in.. I’m tired.  Prayers for my brother and his family.”
Other artists, athletes and actors like Rihanna, Chance The Rapper, Wiz Khalifa, LeBron James, Kevin Hart, John Legend and Colin Kapernick expressed themselves via social media saying their final goodbyes.
Nipsey is survived by his two children and his girlfriend, model and actress Lauren London. The two began dating in 2013 and shared a son named Kross together. The couple recently opened up about their 5-year relationship in the March issue of GQ magazine.
The photo shoot accompanied by a visual piece called “Couples Quiz” by GQ has gained over 4 million views since Monday. Fans have named the couple a “Hip-Hop fairy tale” and continue to have Lauren London in their prayers and their sending condolences.
No arrests have been made in the murder of Nipsey Hussle; Law enforcement in L.A are currently conducting a man hunt to find the gunman since surveillance footage have surfaced showing the final moments of Hussle and the gunman fleeing the scene.
L.A. times report, “Detectives believe the gunman has gang ties but that the motive is likely personal in nature rather than a larger gang feud.”
Nipsey, an icon, musician, father, husband, and community activist will be missed.
